An Introduction to Word 97/2000

Overview / who should attend and why?

This course is suitable for those people who have little or no knowledge of Microsoft Word or experience in using a word processing application.  

No previous experience in using Word or any other word processing application is required in this introductory programme. It is assumed, however, that you have:

  • Knowledge of PC fundamentals
    Experience in working within the Microsoft Windows environment
    A reasonable degree of keyboard proficiency
    Experience in using a mouse

Course Objectives / Benefits

The primary objective of the programme is to present the basic operations of Microsoft Word.

After participating in this programme, you will be able to:

  • Create, save and print a document
  • Perform editing operations, such as inserting, deleting, moving and copying text
  • Perform basic formatting operations, such as applying attributes and a new font/font size to text, resetting margins, tab stops, line spacing and text alignment
  • Create and format a Word table
  • Apply different page settings to different parts of a document
  • Use Word's writing tools
  • Perform a mail merge

  • Moving the insertion point within a document

Formatting a document (part 1)

  • Applying attributes, a new font and font size to text
  • Simultaneously applying multiple font options to text
  • Indenting a paragraph

Formatting a document (part 2)

  • Resetting the left and right margins of a document
  • Setting/clearing tab stops in a document; using decimal tab stops

Performing mail merge

  • The mail merge feature
  • Creating a main document and data source
  • Inserting merge fields into a main document

Costs / Duration and Location

  • The cost of this training course is £200 + VAT per day
  • The duration is two days 9:00 till 16:00
