Counselling Skills for Managers
Overview / who should attend and why?
Most orgnaisations in today’s competitive
environment have to make changes which affect their workforce.
Sometimes change results in higher stress levels, lower morale,
insecurity and a reduction in commitment and motivation. Counselling
skills, if applied in the correct manner can assist staff to
improve their performance and reduce absenteeism or staff turnover.
This course is designed to equip managers and
supervisors with foundation counselling skills and to raise
their awareness of the organisational benefits of helping staff
to resolve their problems.
Course Objectives
At the end of the programme, participants will
be able to:
- Define coaching and how it differs from other styles of leadership.
- Identify and practice key coaching skills.
- Apply practical models and tools for planning and structuring
coaching sessions back in the workplace.
- Develop an action plan for building their coaching skills
back in the workplace
Course Content
- Identify when it is appropriate to use counselling skills
- Define the term 'supervisor' and state its importance to the
manager acting as counsel
- Define and identify counselling skills
- Use foundation counselling skills
- Recognise the personal dilemmas managers may face when called
upon to counsel colleagues
- Identify when it is appropriate to refer staff to professional
organisations
- Have produced a Personal Skilled Counselling Action Plan for
implementation back at the workplace
