Introduction to Minitab

Overview / who should attend and why?

This introductory course to Minitab is mean't to assist people who are training as Six Sigma Green, Black or Master Black Belts.  The course explains how to use this simple statistical software package to enable all the complex calculations associated with some Six Sigma projects.  The course is designed to provide much needed hands on learning where real data can be used to demonstrate the strengths of Minitab.  Some understanding of statistical tools is an advantage prior to attending the course.  In your pre work for the course you will be invited to bring real data to the course so we can work on things that are live. 

If you are a Six Sigma student or manager who has to work with Six Sigma projects then this is a must attend course.

Course Objectives

• To demystify the Minitab software and how to use it
• To use the software to produce statistical analysis from various types of data
• To understand the best tool to use for different kinds of data
• How to interpret the results from Minitab output
• To practise using the tool with real data
• Understand how to use the graphics and report writing part of the package

• What is Minitab and how to navigate round the software
• Data types, entry and manipulation
• Data importing and exporting
• Basic graphical techniques – histograms, box plots, dot plots, time series plots – Minitab graphics
• Minitab Report Manager
• Descriptive statistics
• Graphical Summary
• Pareto analysis and Fishbone diagrams

Day 2

• Measurement systems analysis with Minitab
• Confidence intervals with Minitab
• Process capability with Minitab
• Distribution identification
• Control Charts
• Data types - tools you can use
• Hypothesis tests with Minitab
• ANOVA with Minitab
• Correlation and regression with Minitab

Day 3

• Multiple Regression
• Multi-variation analysis with Minitab
• DOE with Minitab
• Monte Carlo Simulation
• Simple assessment of learning
