Trainers:  Bob Russell    

EDUCATION: - Bob Russell graduated from Bangor University with an Honours Degree in Electronic Engineering. He then qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the English Institute. This combination of Engineering / Manufacturing and Finance expertise has enabled him to “bridge the gap” that so often exists between Finance/Administration and Operations in business.

CAREER HISTORY: - He has worked for Ciba-Geigy, an international chemicals and pharmaceuticals company, in Finance and IT Development, was the Head of their UK Internal Audit function, and finally was Finance Director / Company Secretary for one of their Dyestuffs Manufacturing Companies, responsible for Finance, IT and Purchasing. During this period, he implemented a £1.5m MRP Project, which included the development and leading of training courses for over 120 employees.  For the past 12 years, Bob has consulted, both in the Finance and Manufacturing arenas, either independently, or as part of the senior consultancy support of the MRP vendor, J.D. Edwards.  During this time, he has worked with clients in Africa, West and East Europe, Middle and Far East, the US and Mexico.  As part of this consultancy, he has developed a number of IT software applications to support clients’ projects, and developed and run the associated training courses for their personnel.

CORE SKILLS: - With experience of all levels of business, both in Finance and Operations, together with his skills in analysing business needs and translating them into IT applications which meet those needs, Bob has always enjoyed the challenge of transferring his own enthusiasm to others through training and education. He has presented and trained all levels of personnel, from administration, shop floor, warehouse and production staff through to multi-national board level directors. Bob is also a keen amateur dramatics enthusiast, and as he says “There is a lot of similarity between training and acting!”.  

IT TRAINING EXPERIENCE: - Over the past 15 years, Bob has developed and run training courses covering a number of different skill levels and delegate seniority, and IT Application areas.  Courses have included

  • Public courses on Integrated Performance Measurement using MSOffice tools
  • Supply Chain Improvement seminars for the Swiss Chemical Industries Association members
  • Manufacturing Excellence courses covering a number of industry standard MRP Packages, run for manufacturing companies in Bombay, and sponsored by the Indian government
  • In-house courses developed/run for a company’s personnel and covering general Microsoft Office skills, and more advanced courses for specialists in these areas, including VBA based applications
  • Specialist courses for software developers, covering Visual Basic and Delphi development platforms.

IT APPLICATION AREAS include: -

  • MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Publisher, Access
  • Visual Basic, DelphiSage Line 50 / 100 / Enterprise
  • MRP Packages, including Cincom, JD Edwards, Fourth Shift
OTHER INFORMATION: - Training courses have typically ranged from 1 day to 10 days, with delegate numbers from 1 to 1, up to 1 to 18.  Some seminar formats with numbers up to 350 (not recommended!).  Training material can be developed from the company’s own data and processes, or use generic data. Most courses include case study examples and tutorial elements, which the delegates complete themselves.

Delivery is mostly face to face, although some courses have been delivered via video conferencing or using web based technology.  Material is normally shown by Powerpoint, supported by paper course material for delegates to take away.  Material can also be prepared for distance learning, either web based, or on CD.
